Learned?

Learnin' in the Hood:

10-21-08

Socrates said something like this: "The one who is wise is the one who knows that he is not wise."   This makes sense of course only if you have some wisdom.  But if you do, you certainly can't claim to or you'll disqualify yourself from being wise.  So, for us fools, we know we have to depend on someone wiser than ourselves.  The Bible asks, "Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?"

Because the world in its wisdom has not come to know God, and, after all, this is the whole point of existence!  What utter foolishness to miss the whole point of being here.  We come to know God through humility.  In quietness and trust.  Faith and humility come from God himself and speak to us about our own inadequacy to do anything right or good apart from Jesus Christ.  God has made a way to communication and relationship with Him through the death and resurrection of Jesus.  What hubris to cast that aside and try to find our own way!

Thus I have learned that all wisdom starts with and is to be found in God.  I don't start with my own heart and mind and judge what is right or I will be lost.  Faith and insight are gifts from God.  Jesus said we are born again and that phrase may also be translated, "Born from above."  Our new birth is a gift from God on High.  My response is to be thankful to God for His indescribable gift.  I am happy if I hear His words and obey them.
